Some simple but useful G1/Android addons

I’ve had my HTC G1 for a year now, and I rather like it. Because I’m slightly egotistical and like to think you give a damn about my opinions, I’ve compiled a short list of the various addons I’ve downloaded from the Android Market! Keep reading!

AnyCut

Allows you to make a shortcut to pretty much any function or application, and doesn’t limit you to the G1′s idea of a what a shortcut is.

Google Sky Map

Can an addon be romantic? Really? This one gets close: you can sit outside under the starry night with your loved one (or even your slightly-annoying-but-largely-fine-if-you-ply-them-with-alcohol one), point your G1 to the stars and identify the constellations and that jazz. After that, it’s sexytiem.

Ringdroid

Allows you to use any WAV or MP3 file as a ring tone, message tone, or alarm tone. Why the G1 doesn’t let you do this by default, I’ll never know.

Toggle Wifi

A simple addon that, with one touch, allows you to turn on/off the Wifi connectivity on your G1.

Toggle GPS

…can you guess what this does?

Seesmic

A great little Twitter client for the G1.  I used to use Twidroid, but this just about pips it to the post.

Ultimate Stopwatch

I use this to make sure I don’t burn my pizza in the oven.

One to avoid:

wpToGo

An otherwise ok WordPress addon that allows you to post on your WordPress-powered blog(s) remotely. Buggy as hell, though – and for some reason you can’t write & save drafts (it’ll only save them locally). Also times out whilst loading the posts/comments.

George Rosier runs this blog. It's somewhere he can vent his spleen about web design, usability, SEO, and other such nonsense that will no doubt mean nothing in 5 years' time.
